Shopify stops monkeying around! The Mailchimp fallout explained.

12th May 2019 | Adam Arbolino

For many companies using Shopify + MailChimp, the events of the last couple months have probably left you dazed and confused. Your once rock-solid automated email setup has now been severed by a break down in partnership between MailChimp and Shopify. As we try and help you pick up the pieces, we wanted to chat through some of the reasons behind what happened.

What happened?

Ultimaltey, it was a messy divorce. Shopify says it “had growing concerns about Mailchimp’s app because of the poor merchant experience and their refusal to respect our Partner Program Agreement.”. MailChimp's story is different, saying “We made this decision because Shopify released updated terms that would negatively impact our business and put our users at risk.”

Regardless of which party you are to believe, it means the existing MailChimp users will be shut out from Shopify integration on May 12, 2019. Those who use MailChimp for automated newsletters and emails for Shopify suddenly found themselves scrambling for alternatives to fill the vacuum created by the severed partnership.
